About the Coigach Area

Polbain is a crofting township in the Coigach area, located close to Badentarbat Bay on the North-West Highland coast of Scotland. The township lies two miles northwest of the village of Achiltibuie. There are still working crofts here and fishing boats operating from nearby Old Dornie Harbour. The Coigach peninsula overlooks the beautiful Summer Isles and is surrounded by hills, sea and beaches.

Achiltibuie and Altandhu are crofting townships along the rugged coastline, and people have lived here for thousands of years, with remnants of early inhabitants found in stone hut circle ruins and brochs along the coast. The area is still largely unspoilt, with a vibrant community life of crofting and fishing.

The Summer Isles can be experienced by boat or kayak, with amazing geological features including 'Cathedral Cave'. Beyond, the Highlands and Islands offer mountains, glens, beaches and lochs, and the surrounding wildlife includes Golden and White Tailed Sea Eagles, divers and other sea birds, and large herds of deer.
